Anyone, or any business can make a difference, it just takes a commitment.

Six years ago iHaulJunk in Austin, Texas made a commitment to what was then known as SafePlace, now The SAFE Alliance (Stop Abuse For Everyone).

Matt Fitch, Founder and CEO at iHaulJunk was a one-man hauling operation back in 2016 and when he set iHaul’s goal to raise $100,000 for the charity, it seemed a bit lofty, at the time.

More than 6 years later, iHaulJunk has expanded. With 30+ independent junk haulers in markets all across the US from Atlanta to Los Angeles, the goal seems less like a fantasy and more-so, now an all-out company mission.

In six years iHaul has averaged 4 large bulk haul-aways each year for SAFE. Each haul-off is at least a couple large truck loads with a fair market value at $600 each load. To date, iHaul has donated more than $25,000 in free junk removal services and raised over $6,300 in direct cash donations for The SAFE Alliance.

Sadly, this contribution is merely a drop in the bucket.

The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV) states, {on average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States…1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men experience severe intimate partner physical violence, intimate partner contact sexual violence, and/or intimate partner stalking with impacts such as injury, fearfulness, post-traumatic stress disorder, use of victim services, contraction of sexually transmitted diseases, etc.}

  • 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate partner. This includes a range of behaviors (e.g. slapping, shoving, pushing) and in some cases might not be considered “domestic violence.” (Article found: here)

Every day, every minute, every 20 seconds, women, children and men are victims of physical, emotional and sexual abuse. It’s happening in every town, every city, every corner of the country, it’s in your neighborhood, and happening right now to someone who doesn’t deserve it.

With all of the negativity and the  divisive nature of our politics lately, shouldn’t this be a cause every American can get behind?

Can we not confront this ugly problem head on, together in our communities?

And if not here, then where?

Women, children and men of all ages, all races and of every different beliefs, are victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse, rapes and  homicides.

None of us can hide and we cannot ignore it anymore.

Let’s make a statement that we stand united, together as Americans in the effort to Stop Abuse For Everyone.
